Day 14

Nothing new today except I asked my dr what she thought would happen at 32 weeks (I will definitely be here until then). She said that if my cervix hasn't changed they would consider sending me home remaining on this new medication. If it has changed I will have to remain here.

Being off the mag has brought my aches and pains back. The mag was a muscle relaxer and I remember being so surprised and happy that I wasn't in pain anymore...I slept with no hip pain and got up without belly or back pain. Well, that's all back now.

Chris's mom came in for a visit tonight and brought us dinner. It was the first non hospital meal I have had in 14 days! She also brought us a gift for the babies...little sleepers...so cute.

Chris is packing up to leave now :-(

Day 13

Last night Chris's dad came by for a visit on his way home from work. Chris came in also but a bit later than he said he would so I wasn't too happy.

Today (day 13), my amazing friends Kristin, Rachael, Susan, and Brenda all came in for a visit. My baby shower was planned for today. It is obviously postponed but Susan who is from Chicago had already bought tickets to come to it. The four of them went in on a shower gift for me so they gave it to me today. It was actually a picture of the item since it was too big to bring in...the double stroller we registered for. It was so nice of them.

We visited for a little while and then a student photographer came to take pictures of me, my belly, and Chris. She offered to do them for free because they were part of an assignment for a class plus she can use them for her portfolio. She was very nice and very good. I can't wait to see what the pictures look like!

Day 12

This morning the nurse came in to take me off the mag again. It really came from nowhere so I questioned who had ordered that and she wasn't sure exactly. So I paged my dr and she said that she had a meeting with a group of drs and they were all concerned with me being on it so long...apparently it has some pretty bad side effects. So at noon they disconnected my IV again and gave me a pill of another medicine called nifedipine. It's mostly used as a blood pressure reducer but also relaxes muscles (which will relax my uterus and keep the contractions away). At 1:45 I went on the contraction monitor and I didn't have any at all which has never happened before. I always have at least 4.

My cousin Venetia came by with her almost 3 year old son Jack. He played shy at first but he warmed up. We were able to have a nice visit until it was time for him to take a nap. She also brought by all of her baby boy clothes for us! What a relief! We have nothing!!

Chris will be coming by after dinner tonight to spend the weekend with me. I can't wait to see him :-)

Day 11 update

At midnight they decided to put me back on the mag but at half the dose.
I seem to feel better this morning.

Day 11

Last night when I went to bed I noticed that my eyes were feeling strange...hard to focus and kind of lazy. I figured I was just tired and needed some sleep. When I woke up they still felt the same. The nurses are always asking if my vision is changing so I figured I should say something. I mentioned it and at the same moment my dr came in so we discussed it and she said if it got worse to let her know and they would decrease the magnesium. Throughout the day it never really got worse but I also developed a headache and started to feel groggy and yucky. The nurse paged the dr on call who happenes to be the dr that trained my dr so I trust his decisions like I trust hers. At 7:30pm they disconnected my IV. I am now on my own. The mag will take a good 6 hours or so to get out of my system. I feel like they pushed me off a cliff and there is no net to catch me. I'm very scared. They said that it's possible that it wasn't necessarily the mag that was keeping my contractions down so i could just stay the same. They also said that if the contractions come back I may be able to go back on it after a break. All I can do is lay here and wait...not very comforting. It actually feels really strange to not be tied to the iv pole.

On a brigher note, I met with the other ladies on the floor today who are also here on bedrest. All of us that were there last week were still there this week so that's good. It's funny to get together with them cause we all have the same gripes so we all have a good laugh. I also had a visit from my friend Michelle today. She is two weeks ahead of me in pregnancy and it's so funny to see how much bigger I am than she is (she's only having one). She looks great and we had a nice long visit but then she needed to get back to work.
