Mosquito bites

Are my kids the only ones who react horribly to mosquito bites? Even with repellent they still get bit and the bites swell up like nothing I've ever seen. Yesterday Jackson got a bite on his eyebrow and it looked fine most of the afternoon but this morning when he got up his eye is swollen half way shut. Sometimes they blister and the area around it gets red and hot. Neither have ever had any red rings or fevers. So are they the only ones?

Yikes! that looks scary to me. Have you asked a doctor about it?

Holy Cow! I have a friend whose youngest reacts like that to bites. Poor Jackson!

I've actually brought him to the ER before because one day the ENTIRE side of his lower leg was red, swollen, and extremely hot. They said it was an infection and he was on antibiotics. So am I supposed to put them on antibiotics every time they get a bite? Should I give them benadryl?
Maddie ended up getting a bite next to her eye today and it's now swollen her eye up like Jackson's. I'll probably call the dr in the morning if jackson's isn't better.

My patrick swells up like that, and so did I when I was little. It looks worse than it is, i think. With the bites on the leg there's this medical maxim that redness on the leg below the knee under the age of 6 should be considered osteomyelitis ( a bone infection) until otherwise proven, so I think they were just being cautious with the antibiotics. Certainly they dshouldn't need antibiotics every time they get a bite.

You can get kid anti-histamines here for over 2's... may help them sleep better at night!

omg, i thought my son was the only child that has bad reactions like this. Its horrible, i dont know what to do about it. He gets huge red circles around the bites and swell up the same way and it stays for up to 2 weeks at a time. Its so frustrating! :(

Wow, this post is really old! Once they got older they didn't react like this anymore. Thank goodness it's not something that keeps happening.
